TYING NOTES

This pattern will test your thread control and force you to make every wrap count. I really think the tails are the most complicated part of this pattern. I like to keep this version in my box all the time for picky fish but typically carry it for the smaller mayfly hatches like sulphurs, mahoganies, and tricos. Play with different wing materials and come up with something for your watershed. Other popular wing material options include: EP Fibers, Sparkle Braid, and even foam!

FISHING NOTES

This is a fly that is wonderfully suited for calm water conditions like much of Northern Michigan. Here, fish often have time to really take a look and decide. I find that this fly is most effective when fished in the film. Don't go crazy with floatant, the CDC wing used here typically does best with a powder floatant and not a gel-type. Keep you leaders light and tippet long, this fly is easy to turn over and grabs the attention of feeding trout.
