Fishing Report 9/6/19

IT'S SALMON TIME!

Thanks for tuning in sports fans, we've got a very exciting report for you this week. It's the moment many anglers across the state have been waiting for and a true indicator of the seasons changing in Northern Michigan. The rain predicted for next week will only bring more fish in.

SALMON

It's time to try and catch some Kings & Coho! Fish are trickling in daily in almost all the local rivers. Head west of Traverse City to find higher numbers of fish or fish locally where the run has just started and there will likely be a few less people. Mentally prepare yourselves for a totally different world if you are used to spending time on any normal trout stream. Please respect the river and carry out your trash despite what you may see other anglers doing.

Successful anglers are drifting egg patterns, green caddis, and brightly colored nymphs through the holes. Chuck & Duck setups are working very well where there is not too much wood to snag up on. Bobber/indicators are also a great way to get flies in front of fish where it's full of wood. Remember, you're not likely to land many of these huge fish but you'll definitely get a fun show!

TROUT

Trout fishing has been consistently good these past two weeks. Although most of the big fish are still weary of coming out during the daylight hours, we've been catching great numbers of smaller brown and brook trout. Streamer fishing is starting to pick up with 2"-4" flies in natural colors like white, tan, and olive. Hoppers and terrestrials are still going strong so cast you flies in likely looking spots and don't forget to add the occasional twitch to get those rubber legs going.
