Fishing Report 9/10/18

SALMON FEVER IS HERE

In Northern Michigan King Salmon have started their annual ascent of our rivers systems and anglers are out in force to try and hook into one of these enormous fish. The Boardman's weir is in place so you'll wannt to fish downstream to the mouth. On the Betsie crowds are thick as always but we've heard good reports on numbers from the Homestead Dam and downstream. We haven't heard much from the Platte River which is fairly normal this early in the run.

Anglers are finding success fishing with egg patterns, nymphs, and beads. Remember not to overthink flies for salmon, just keep putting it in front of the fish. Grab your nine or ten weight rods and go have some fun. Check out this recent article for more information on getting rigged up for salmon and steelhead.

Trout

Though most anglers have forgotten about trout fishing, it remains quite good. We've been throwing streamers in cool mornings finding success with single hook and smaller articulated patterns. When the sun hits the water you can still fish hoppers, beetles, and ants along the bank. The best part of trout fishing in September is going to be having the river all to yourself!
