Improved Power Ant - Fly Tying Tutorial
The original Power Ant has been a favorite terrestrial pattern for years. In the low and clear flows of summer, trout are often wary and suspicious of large, loud flies like the Chubby Chernobyl. The Power Ant, with its high contrast and wiggling legs, is a great match for our flying ants. Unfortunately, it tends to sink after a few fish—something that has frustrated us for years. This improved version aims to solve that problem with the addition of a foam layer and a higher-floating bull elk wing.
Generally, we stick to the classic black & white color scheme - similar to the popular Michigan Skunk. Don't be afraid to mix it up when you're tying though. I suspect a royal version or even purple would work wonderfully.
