Northern Michigan Fishing Report – Steelhead & Trout Conditions | April 10, 2026
April 10, 2026 Northern Angler Fishing Report
After the big rain events from last week, the rivers are really starting to drop and get into great shape for fishing this weekend. I have been out most of the week and the fishing remains really good with a mix of fresh chrome and some winter fish. Winter fish are starting to really spawn and leave the system and we have fresh fish moving, porpoising and moving through the system. The next two weeks look really good based on what we witnessed this week. The crowds of spring are starting to show up and remember to have fun on the water and be courteous to others!
Don’t forget the Adams Chapter Trout Unlimited Banquet is coming up April 16! Last chance to buy tickets! Come out and support cold water resources! Check it out here
Manistee River
The Big Manistee below Tippy Dam has been slowly getting back into shape and this morning we are looking at a more normal spring flow rate. The color is still there, but the fish can see the flies and looking for nymphs and small streamers as well as eggs. Great mix of fresh fish and still getting chrome, wild hen steelhead that have yet to spawn. Temperatures are hitting that spawning zone, so look for fish to be staging off the spawning gravel. You can check out the Manistee River flow gauge here. Natural colored egg patterns and chartreuse have been the best colors with a good number of fish taking stoneflies, fry patterns and steelhead buggers the last few days.
Betsie River
The Betsie River is getting back into shape and reports from yesterday were really good on this river. The water is still up and stained, but if you know where to go and be sensible about wading, this is a great option for fishing this weekend. Fry patterns and eggs are working really well and there is a good number of fish in the system with the rain from last week. This river should peak this week!
Platte River
The Platte River opened up from US 31 downstream on April 1 and is in perfect shape to fish! There are fish scattered lightly through the system and if you don’t find fish in your favorite spot, keep moving and explore this wonderful gem of a river!
Boardman River
We have been seeing a good number of fish moving in and out of the Boardman River this week and they are starting to spawn on the gravel sections downtown. Keep in mind that this river is closed to fishing BELOW Beitner Road. Fishing opens up the last Saturday in April for the sections above Beitner Road.
