Traverse City Weather Conditions

Upper Manistee River Gauge

USGS Boardman River Gauge

Manistee River

We Are still in our summer fishing pattern. Start early as the sun comes up and fish until the water warms and the sun is high over head. We had a significant amount of rain a few days ago that brought the water up and added some color to it. That is now currently receding and getting back towards normal flows. Streamers and twitch bugs have been good early in the day. Once the water warms a bit around 9am you can throw terrestrials. The window usually closes for us around noon where fish are active.

What's Working

  • Chubbies size 12-16
  • Ants
  • Hippy Stompers
  • Tan Leeches

Best Tactics

Fish the mid river early, then spend your time on the outside seams closer to the bank. Look for the riffles and bubble lines where fish will hold looking up. The 1-4 foot water is where you will find your dry fly eaters.

Boardman Ottaway River

Much the same as the Manistee. Fish early and get out before the kayakers hit the water.

What's Working

  • Wet Skunks
  • Chubbies
  • JJ Special
