  Salmon/Steelhead Honestly, with the high pressure and warm weather we've had the past week time has been better spent on the beaches of Northern Michigan than our Salmon rivers. What fish are in our rivers have been fished to and are wise to our games. Thankfully, we have a cool down on the way with rain mixed in that is sure to bring fresh fish into our rivers. In Northern Michigan King Salmon have started their annual ascent of our rivers systems and anglers are out in force to try and hook into one of these enormous fish.

Salmon, Trout -

In the last three days, we have seen three thunderstorms bring heavy rains to the area. Some areas have received damaging winds and even hail in addition to several inches of rain. Rivers will be running high for the next few days so we ask that everyone uses caution wading or floating.

Trout fishing has been good this past week as brown and brook trout continue to look up for the now sporadic Trico hatches in the mornings and terrestrials later in the day. This time of year I love to get out early with a light rod and have some fun with the brook trout.

Trout are responding well to foam and rubber on our local rivers. You might be surprised at how big you can actually go with some of these "chubby" style flies, even smaller fish will come up and slash at these. Slap them down and twitch them around grassy banks for some fun in the sun. Start early in the day if you can and get off the water before the heat really sets in.
