How about this weather? It has been absolutely beautiful this past week here in Northern Michigan and that looks to continue through next week. We've been enjoying some "beach worthy" days here on the rivers that have crawled into the eighties and had us digging our summer gear back out of the closets.  TROUT Keep an eye on the weather the rest of this month as any precipitation will provide a flow bump to our rivers and really kick the action into high gear. We've had an unbelievable weekend with great weather a good fishing but looking ahead you might want to pack your rain gear if you're headed to Northern Michigan. Besides Tuesday, the forecast is calling for rain every day this week. Wednesday and Saturday look to have the heaviest precipitation but that shouldn't keep you off the water. Remember, fish have to eat!

    TROUT Many anglers have been frustrated with trout fishing as water has stayed cold and hatches have been elusive. Remember that it will get better and we'll be back on schedule in no time. Those that spend the most time on the water will be the most successful as windows of opportunity can be short this time of year. Plan on fishing streamers, wet flies, and nymphs and hope for dry fly action.  Hendricksons will likely diminish after this weekend so it's a good idea to start carrying Sulphurs, Olive and Tan Caddis, March Browns, and Mahoganies. We are starting to see more and more familiar faces at the shop as days get warmer and we inch towards the opening of Michigan's trout season. Of course many of the rivers we love now have extended season that allow us to fish year round but I think there is something else important in the celebration of the trout opener. For me, it's the mental shift towards spring and summer and fish that will rise to a dry fly. Knowing that the sun will once again embrace the north makes everything a little better.
