Fishing Report 2/3/22

Welcome March! Spring is definitely in the air and we are looking at 50 degree temps for the weekend but another cold snap next week. At least the long range forecast looks good from the middle of the month on. The days are getting longer and we are seeing a bit more sun, so the winter doldrums are behind us. There is still time to get your flies tied up for spring and summer, but be prepared to get out on the warmer days.

Steelhead fishing on our local rivers has been consistent so far this month. The rivers and tributaries remain fairly low and clear for this time of year. We have very little snow pack, so depending spring rains or spring snow events it will most likely remain low and clear for much of the spring. Bright colored eggs, stonefly nymphs, caddis nymphs and fry patterns should be in your box. Don’t overlook hex nymphs for the early spring bite.

Open trout water has been hit or miss, but mostly miss. It won’t be long until fish become more active and before you know it dry fly season will be starting. There is always that nice streamer window in late April and May for those of us who like to ply the waters with meaty patterns with the h ope of a big reward.

This weekend is the Fly Fishing Film Tour at The City Opera House and the following weekend is the MFFC Fly Fishing Show in Warren, MI. We will have a booth at the show and look forward to seeing everyone attending the show.

We still have a few spring dates open on the calendar for steelhead and spring and summer trout dates. Call the shop and get on the calendar! New gear is starting to trickle in to the shop and we are definitely seeing supply chain issues with most products so be patient with us as we do do have all the cool new gear on order, it is just taking an extra long time to show up. As always, we appreciate your business. We love getting you outfitted with gear to help make the most of your time on the water.
